“If you make it a part of your routine when you go to the store, instead of buying what you want, you buy what’s on sale and what you have a coupon for. You can save a lot of money,” said Griffin as he typed away on a laptop while sitting at his dining room table.
“This just lets people share advice.”

Griffin is the founder of savvydollar.org. It’s an online community of savvy shoppers who share shopping tips, information on sales and coupons.

The idea is simple: combine coupons with weekly sales to get the most bang for your buck and tell others about it.

Here’s Griffin’s example.

“Say Harris Teeter has Tostitos on sale this week, buy one get one free. But one of the site’s users remembers a few weeks ago there was a coupon for 55 cents off,” explains Griffin, holding up a manufacturers coupon. “So if the snack is already half price, you take the coupon to Harris Teeter because they double coupons, so now you have a bag of Tostitos for about one dollar.”

Griffin launched savvydollar.org in December. Traffic is increasing every month. There were 26,000 visits in June from all over the state.  To find out more, click here.
