Remains Belong To Holley Wimunc

FAYETTEVILLE. N.C --  Autopsy results released Friday positively identified the remains found in Onslow County this weekend as the remains of Army 2nd Lieutenant Holley Wimunc.
 
The official manner of death has been determined a homicide, however the cause of death will not be released due to the ongoing investigation.

The official autopsy report from the North Carolina State Medical Examiners office will not be completed for several months.

On Thursday, the parents of Marine Corporal John Wimunc say they are in shock over the death of their daughter-in-law, Holley Wimunc.
 
But they insist their son is innocent.
 
Florian and Lana Wimunc appeared at a news conference Thursday afternoon along with John Wimunc’s attorney D.W. Bray.
 
Florian Wimunc talked briefly about this case and the charges against his son.
 
“At one moment I’ve lost a daughter-in-law and all contact with my son,” Florian Wimunc said.
 
John Wimunc is accused of first degree murder.
 
Police say he killed his estranged wife Holley Wimunc, burned her Fayetteville apartment in an attempt to conceal evidence of the crime and then buried her mutilated remains in a hole in Onslow County near Camp Lejeune.
 
“Johnny maintains his innocence,” Florian Wimunc said about his son.
 
DW Bray, the attorney hired to defend John Wimunc, opened the news conference by describing his client’s childhood.
 
“Johnny is a normal, average American kid who served his country honorably,” DW Bray said.
 
Bray did say Wimunc did see substantial combat during his tour of service in Iraq, but said that has no bearing on the case.
 
John Wimunc and fellow Marine Lance Corporal Kyle Alden had their first appearance Tuesday in connection to Holley Wimunc’s murder.
 
Kyle is charged with arson and accessory to murder.
 
Holley Wimunc was reported missing July 10 by co-workers at Womack Army Medical Center.
 
Her friends and co-workers held a memorial for Holly Wimunc on Wednesday at the Medical Center .
 
She was an OBGYN nurse who had served at Fort Bragg for nearly a year.
