SANFORD, N.C. – The husband of a Lee County teacher filed a civil lawsuit Monday, claiming former Lee County Schools Superintendent Jim Mc Cormick used his position to exploit his wife into a two-year "romantic and sexual relationship."

The plaintiff, Sherrill Normann Jr., is seeking damages from Mc Cormick for having an affair with his wife, Margaret Dossenbach Normann, a technology facilitator at Deep River Elementary.

The suit claims that Sherrill Normann enjoyed "a relationship of genuine love and affection" with his wife before the affair with Mc Cormick.

The suit alleges that Mc Cormick knew Normann was married, but "willfully, intentionally, wrongfully, maliciously and unjustifiably" interfered with the Normanns' relationship.

According to court documents, the plaintiff is asking for punitive damages in excess of $10,000 each for the alienation of marital affection and injury to his emotional health. It asks another $10,000 each of compensatory and punitive damages for the suffering caused by "criminal conversation" between Mc Cormick and Normann.

Due to the amount of damages being requested by the plaintiff, the case will be heard in a superior court by a jury.

According to the suit, the Normanns are still married and Margaret Dosenbach Normann is still an employee at Deep River Elementary.
