DURHAM, N.C. -- There are new charges ahead for two Durham residents who prosecutors say engaged in satanic rituals in Durham. On Tuesday afternoon, authorities charged Joseph Scott Craig with two additional counts of second-degree kidnapping, and one count of forcible sexual offense.

Craig already faced at least two counts of second degree kidnapping, one count of second degree rape, and at least one count of second degree sexual offense. Arrest warrants allege Craig assualted one woman with a solid wood case, "inflicting serious injury." Another arrest warrant alleges Craig kidnapped a 16-year-old and assulted him with a wood cane and a cable cord.

Prosecutors said at a Monday court hearing that Craig and Joy Johnson, the former vice-chair of the Durham County Democratic party, engaged in satanic worship, which involved shackling victims to beds, keeping them in dog cages and starving them in a Durham home.

Joy Johnson received one additional count of felony aiding and abetting as a result of Monday's additional charges. She will face three total charges.

"I hope that she can resolve her difficulties. She certainly has our moral support, but the charges have been absolutely shocking. People have been flabbergasted, and nobody can believe the things that have been alledged," said State Sen. Floyd McKissick (D-Durham), speaking on behalf of the local Democratic constituency.

Authorities say they are still actively investigating this case. Johnson is being held on with a $270,000 bail. Craig's bail is set at $590,000.

Craig will appear in court Wednesday on the new charges. Both Johnson and Craig are scheduled to appear in court July 7.
