CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- Eight firefighters are recovering after being struck by lightning while battling a wildfire in West-Central North Carolina.

The firefighters were working to improve containment lines around a small wildfire near Lenoir in Caldwell County on Saturday.
Officials say lightning stuck a nearby snag and apparently traveled through the ground, shocking the workers.
