Construction is expected to begin in early 2009 with completion scheduled in spring 2010. The $20 million hotel will be built on the 50-acre development across from the shopping center.
In the past 10 years, Kane has taken the lead in North Hills, converting the shopping center from its empty lots to the current mix of stores, restaurants and offices along with condos.
Kane officials tout the seven-story Hyatt as a "complement" to the Renaissance Raleigh Hotel at North Hills, which already under construction by Kane and Concord.
“We are pleased to again partner with Concord in the development of another quality hotel like Hyatt Summerfield Suites,” said John Kane, Kane chairman and CEO. “The Hyatt Summerfield Suites will give both business and leisure travelers all the amenities they could need or want right here in the midst of North Hills."
Despite tough times in the economy and rising costs Kane CEO John Kane says they're confident there's still room in Raleigh for a new hotel.
"We've got a lot of momentum going on in North Hills, which is fortunate and things are going well there,” he said. “The economy is certainly affecting everything but there's still a lot of demand for what we're doing so we're certainly excited to have the opportunity to move forward on this project as well."
The Hyatt Summerfield Suites will have 140 upscale guest suites that feature a full kitchen, living area with a 32-inch flat-panel high-definition TV and a separate bedroom. The 100,000-square-foot hotel will include retail space on the first floor.
