RALEIGH, N.C. – A group of Sanford students has won the statewide contest to name the new mascot for the state’s drought education campaign.
Today, Gov. Mike Easley announced that Jane Patterson’s 1st and 2nd Grade Exceptional Education Class at Deep River Elementary came up with the winning name, “Conservin’ Irvin” for the water droplet mascot.
“I congratulate Ms. Patterson and her students for choosing a name that is perfect for our SaveWaterNC mascot,” said Easley in a press release. “We learned from this drought that everyone in North Carolina needs to use water wisely, and that means conserving, just like Conservin’ Irvin does.”
Easley asked North elementary school students in April to suggest names for the new mascot and 829 elementary school classes sent in their entries.
The mascot will be featured on www.SaveWaterNC.org.
