Raleigh Skyline Gets 60-Feet Taller

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Capital City's tallest building just got taller after contractors attached a 60-foot spire to the top of the RBC Plaza Wednesday morning.

Kelly Maicon, spokeswoman for Highwoods Properties, said the 11,000-pound spire was put on top of the 33-story building between 6 and 7 a.m.

The building, located at Martin and Fayetteville Streets, consists of retail space, condominiums and office space. It is scheduled to open this fall. RBC Centura is the primary tenant.
With the addition, the building is now 538 feet from the sidewalk.
RBC offiicals broke ground on the $100 million project in 2006.
