An EF 2 tornado touched down in Guilford County with wind speeds of 130 miles-per-hour.
An EF 3 hit in Forsyth County with wind speeds of 140 miles-per-hour.
One man was killed, 3 people were injured, and at least 25 homes and 30 businesses were damaged from the storms.
From the air some structures look as if their roofs were peeled off.
Others had roofs that looked as they were vacuumed clear of the building.
On the ground, more damage, and efforts by rattled residents to try and get passed the shock of the storm.
“We didn't know when to come outside you know because it got real quiet,” said resident Rene Johnson.
As they continue to pick through the remains of their homes many are counting their blessings.
David parker's family survived the storm by hiding in a closet, while the rest of their home came crashing down around them.
“The area that they were in when they were found was about a foot and a half high, about three foot by three foot,” David Parker said.
And as residents sift through the remains of their homes, Greensboro Police say they will continue restricting access to most of the storm thrashed areas.
“We would ask citizens to try not to come into the area because they will be turned away,” Captain Robert Flint said.
While dozens of homes and businesses are destroyed, hundreds of others remain without power.
Duke energy officials say they have scrambled to get the power back on, but many may not have electricity restored till this weekend.
We still want people to be careful, if you see a line down, we still want you to exercise caution, call us, call 911,” Duke Energy Spokesman Davis Montgomery said.
