DURHAM, N.C. -- Police investigators are trying to identify a woman that allegedly stole credit cards from a mother visiting her terminally ill daughter at Duke University Hospital.

Authorities with the Durham Police Department said the victim's credit cards were stolen from her purse, which had been left in a hospital room on April 25.

Kim Jones lost her 4-year-old niece Jordyn two weeks ago to Childhood Leukemia.

"I will cherish the time iIspent with her forever," Jones said.

It was the same day "Little Red" died, that someone stole credit cards from Jones' purse at Duke University hospital.
More than $90,000 was charged to the stolen cards that weekend at several businesses including Belk, Wal-Mart, Apple and convenience stores in Durham, Raleigh, Wake Forest and Knightdale.

In one store, a female wearing blue hospital scrubs used the stolen credit cards on April 25 to purchase gift cards. She was described as black, in her late teens or 20s, with a light complexion and hair that was pulled back. The same female is seen later in the weekend making additional purchases at the store.

Police have released several surveillance photos of the suspect and a male that was accompanying the female when the stolen cards were used. To see all the surveillance photos, click on the Gallery tab to the left.

Duke Hospital says the Children's Bone Marrow Unit where the cards were stolen is a secure area. But it's still a public place, according to Duke, and some people can sneak past security.

The hospital would not say if the woman in the picture is a hopsital employee.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator A.H. Holland Jr. at 560-4440 ext. 254, Duke University Police Detective Sgt. Gary Smith at 684-6424 or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
