Fuquay-Varina is moving forward with an involuntary annexation of more than 1,000 people in the Sunset Lake Road and James Slaughter Road area of Wake County.
Residents met with anti-annexation activists, state leaders and elected officials in Holly Springs.
Holly Springs officials said they have a policy against involuntary annexation and offered advise to residents in their fight.
Catherine Heath with “Stop NC Annexation” said the best way for these residents to fight against the annexation is to contact state leaders and hire an attorney. But she said it will be a difficult fight.
"The cards are stacked against them. The law is written very very liberally in favor of the cities," she said.
Fuquay-Varina officials urge these residents to go to one of the informational sessions they have scheduled for May 13, 15 and 18.
State officials said this whole situation could be resolved if a bill to halt all involuntary annexations passes when lawmakers go back into session later this month.
