CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- If clothing size numbers make you a little dizzy, UNC grads Melissa Adelman and Jessica Crowell said they have the solution.

Discuss This Story

Adelman said she's always had problems finding clothes because of sizing differences between each designer, and she knew she couldn't be alone.

"Especially when you buy online when you can't try on clothing," Adelman said. "How can you know what size you are when there are inconsistencies across the board?"

But soon enough, it'll be easy. Adelman and Crowell came up with "Size Wand."

Here's how it works: Say you went into your closet and picked out a skirt in a size 10 from the designer Merona. But you want to find out what size you would be at the Gap. That's where the size wand tool comes in.

"You can click on the tool "Size Wand" and enter your brand, style and size in something you know fits you well, and we'll find you a comparative size in the item you're looking at," Adelman said.

Crowell said it's a simple idea that just makes sense.

"We've never had to prove our value to anyone," she said. "All they say is, 'if this works, it's sold.'"

And so far they've already got several big retailers that are interested.

"All the feedback we have has been incredibly positive," said Crowell. "We normally end a conversation with, 'how much does it cost retailers like ourselves?'"

To check it out, go to sizemeuponline.com.  When you get there, you can also enter the clothing brands you have to grow the database. Adelman said she expects "Size Wand" to be up on some retailers Web sites in the next few months.
