The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that 44-year-old Randall Moneymaker claimed he had been on active duty since the early 1980s, serving as a Ranger in places such as Grenada, Panama, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq. He has claimed to live in Clayton, N.C., and Roanoke, Va.

Virginia prosecutors say Moneymaker used his status as a wounded soldier to obtain more than $18,000 in military disability payments. He also secured a job as a recruiter for the Army's Active Guard Reserve.

The jury convicted Moneymaker of making false statements and theft of government property.

He also faces a fine of more than $1.5 million. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
