Karin Baumister Rehm has always dream of using her art for a good cause. Now, she says her wishes are coming true. Rehm painted dozens of unique birdhouse that will be hung first in Apex, then all over the word. The birdhouses will be filled with messages of love and peace that they hope will be passed on to others.
"I hope this little message will be the nesting material for the birds and those little birdies will take the message to the world," Rehm said.
The first two birdhouses were hung Monday at the Apex Chamber of Commerce as part of the Nesting for Peace Program.
"I’m flattered this is the first bird that will start this peace initiative. My understanding is that bird will be the first, then spread worldwide," said Brenda Steen, president of the Apex Chamber of Commerce.
Rehm will travel to Germany and Spain to hang more birdhouses. She says art is one of the best tools to spread the message of peace.
"I want people to know peace is the most important thing in the world and for all creatures," Rehm said.
