With 11 towers covering North Campus, Centennial Campus, the Vet school and Carter Finley Stadium, all 100 people chosen to be a part of the hearing test, said they heard the alarm loud and clear.

The Wolf Alert System is designed to get people inside and under cover, then prompts people to log on to the internet or cell phone for more info. The system can be localized to only alert one area, or campus wide and can be done by tone or voice alert. The university will also alert people by text message, e-mail and postings on the school's website.

According to officials, it took $250,000 for the system to be installed and is similar to alert systems at UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-Wilmington.

System tests will be conducted the first Monday of every month.
