FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- There aren’t many free community newspapers left these days. But SmartNews in Fayetteville is just that.

The newspaper’s 16 pages are full of local, state, national and world news -- a platform for readers to submit their own information and ideas; and a vehicle for affordable advertising for businesses and merchants.
Randy Foster, Editor and Co-Publisher of SmartNews, said the paper is here for the community. "For Fayetteville people, I think they understand just how large and complex a community Fayetteville is,” he said. “We try to capture that and provide a way for people to submit their news to a paper that is easy to access and free of the attitude."
Smart News General Manager, Chris Villa describes the paper as "quirky, interesting, a quick read. You don't have ten sections to read. You don't have five pages of a story to read."
SmartNews was founded in June of 2007.
The paper is published Fridays. Fresh copies are available on news racks and at counter locations by late morning throughout Cumberland County.
