Storms Cause Outages: Def Leppard Concert Canceled

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Thousands lost power Tuesday evening as strong storms moved through the area. One of those suffering an outage is Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, resulting in the cancellation of a scheduled concert featuring Def Leppard, Styx and Foreigner.
At the height of the storm Raleigh reported 4,000 without power, Garner reported 7,500 without power and Cary reported 1,300 without power.
About 400 Progress Energy customers are still without power this morning.
In Apex some residents reported seeing a funnel cloud near N.C. 55 and U.S. 1.
The National Weather Service has not confirmed a twister.
In Chatham County downed trees caused damage to a least one Pittsboro home.
There were also several reports of downed trees and power lines in North Raleigh.
"First there was a surge in the power, it went out, came back and tried to come back again and then just went dead," said Dennis Peak, who lost power.
On Lead Mine Road, crews worked for hours to replace a downed power pole.
Police had to close a portion of lead mine so crews could repair the damage.
