RALEIGH, N.C. -- Forbes.com has named Raleigh as the best city in the country for selling a home.

In its listing of "Top Home Sellers' Markets," Forbes writer Matt Woosley said Raleigh has avoided problems faced by other cities.

"Moderate growth and disciplined building over the last five years prevented the market from developing a significant glut," Woosley wrote.

"Additionally, a strong local economy has helped contribute to the city's healthy 1.6 percent vacancy rate. What's more, the rate of home sales against home inventory was healthy in Raleigh; in this category, it ranked fifth best of big cities, according to Moody's metrics. Even though the market has low vacancy to begin with and displayed strong construction restraint during the housing boom, Raleigh still has the eighth best rate of tightening."

The ranking was based on several sales criteria, including data from Moody's Economy.com and the National Association of Realtors.

The top five cities in the list are:

1) Raleigh

2) San Francisco

3) Austin, Texas

4) San Antonio, Texas

5) St. Louis

The top cities to buy a home, according to Forbes.com are:

1) Tampa, Fla.

2) Minneapolis

3) Miami

4) Kansas City, Mo.

5) Chicago
