ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A recreational magazine has named Asheville the nation's best Southern town.

 

"Outside Magazine" says it picked Asheville because of the town's two-thousand miles of hiking and mountain biking trails and some of the nation's finest whitewater creeking.

 

The magazine selected towns and cities based on their access to wilderness, progressive politics and realistic housing and job markets.

 

"Outside" chose Atlanta as the best Southern city. All of the magazine's picks are available in its August edition.
